Precision Cooker WI-FI Connectivity Troubleshooting

Anova Precision Cooker WI-FI Connectivity Troubleshooting Guide

Having issues connecting to WI-FI? Before you read this, check out our quick troubleshooting guide HERE.

First things first, to connect to WI-FI you will need to download the Anova app

Android - Downloadable here

Apple - Downloadable here

Before You try to connect make sure you:

  1. You are using the latest version of the app.
  2. Move your Precision Cooker WI-FI to within 5 feet/ 1.5 meters of your router (not a wireless repeater) - This will speed up the connection process. Don't worry - Once you successfully connect, you can unplug your Precision Cooker WI-FI and move it anywhere you'd like!
  3. Connect your Phone to your 2.4GHz WI-FI network - If you have two network names with the same name - For example “My WIFI Name” and “My WIFI Name-5G” - choose “My WIFI”. The Precision Cooker WI-FI works best with a 2.4GHz connection.
  4. Make sure your WI-FI password is between 8 and 18 characters and doesn't have any special characters:! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) { } [ ] ", . = + ~ ` _ < > : ; | / ? \
  5. Then, you can proceed to open the Anova app and follow the steps listed in the app to connect to WI-FI.

Were you able to connect on the first try? If not, please follow the steps listed below or fill out  our quick troubleshooting guide HERE:

  1. Delete the Anova WI-FI app - this will clear any existing settings on your app and smooth out the connection process
  2. Unplug and then re-plug in your Precision Cooker WI-FI and wait for one minute while the device restarts.
  3. Press and hold the WI-FI icon on the Precision Cooker WI-FI until it beeps once (approximately 4 seconds) - This will clear any existing settings and will help connect you faster. The WI-FI restarting process can take upwards of one minute to complete.
  4. Reinstall the Anova app and follow the connection process
  5. If you are still unable to connect, please contact us via and we'll get you connected!

Advanced Router Settings / Advanced Configurations:

  • "Enterprise" authentication is not supported. The Anova Precision Cooker can not join any WI-FI networks that require both a username and password.
  • WPA2PSK and WPAPSK authentication with AES or TKIP encryption are the recommended WI-FI network configurations.
  • WEP is supported, but not recommended.
  • Make sure your router is visible (visible SSID) in your settings.
  • AP Isolation - If you have this setting enabled in your router settings or WI-FI extender, you will need to have this option disabled in order to connect your Anova Precision Cooker WI-FI. This may also be known as 'Client Isolation' or 'Guest Mode' on your router. Please refer to your router documentation to learn how to disable AP isolation.

  • If you do not have access to your router settings, or if you are attempting to connect through a guest, hotel or public network with AP/client isolation, you will be unable to set up your Anova Precision Cooker WI-FI.

  • If you're looking for the MAC address of your device, please view the article here.

If you are still unable to connect, you can always contact us at!

I've been waiting since I pre-ordered this cooker to connect to Wi-Fi. No luck. I've got two different AP's and I've tried everything. All I get is a whit flashing Wi-Fi symbol and a failed connection. It would help if I had ANY visibility of the device's parameters, e.g. MAC address. This is not ready for prime time.

My anova and wifi were synced when i left in the morning. While home, I disconnected bluetooth and wifi and connection was stable with cellular only. Great.

I was pleased when i got to work (9 miles away) the connection was still good - i even showed my coworkers the app and explained the concept and one of them is ready to buy based on the ability to start cooking on the homeward commute. It was cool seeing the live temp, and the ability to start the cook at the time.

Low and behold, I was ready to leave work and start cooking but the anova lost connection ans there was no way to establish the connection from work.

It wasnt till i got home, attempted to unsuccessfully connect, deleted and reinstalled the wifi app that i was back online but ultimately this defeated the whole purpose of being able to come home to a cooked meal.

I work long days and have dreamed of being able to not worry about cooking dinner so late. This glitch is a major upset, possibly even a deal breaker that could cause me to refund the unit if it doesnt live up to its unique promise.

My coworkers are all awaiting to hear how this is resolved before making a purchase.

Help me Anova support, your my only hope (for a hands off cooked meal).

Cannot connect to WiFi no matter what I do and I've tried everything

So I got my Precision Cooker today and had a heck of a time getting it to connect. I am an Infosec professional and so I decided to do what any IT professional would do and troubleshoot the problem. I tried all of the steps that Anova recommended and then did some research. A lot of people with iPhones 6 and 6s are complaining that the issues they are having might be with the phones themselves. I found that atleast with my problem, the PC had issues connecting to my router's 5ghz band. I have a 2.4ghz network as well, so I connected my phone to that network and then tried the wifi app again and the PC connected like a charm. I then turned off wifi and Bluetooth and it was still able to reach the PC. I hope that this information is helpful to some poor soul who has tried nearly everything. In review, try connecting your phone to a 2.4ghz network when setting up the PC. You may have to log into your router and set up a guest network if you only use the 5ghz band normally so that you can do this. No big deal though. Good luck!

Cannot connect to wifi even though I tried all the suggestions in the Help session. I am using an iPhone 6. Not sure if this is the problem as many of users encountered. Pissed.

How do you pair two devices

  • Avatar

Ihave the same question--is it possible to pair with two different iPhones? I paired it to my iPhone successfully. My partner then downloaded the app and paired to his phone. Then the next day MH phone could no longer connect (and j also could not cancel the app's attempt to pair, which meant that the app was getting locked on the pairing screen). I have just asked my partner to impair from his phone and I will go and try again.

Why is there an 18 character limit for the wifi password? This is a pain.

Would ANOVA please enlighten us which RFC specifies that WPA-PSK passphrases must not contain spaces?!

Impossible to connect to wifi. I feel you shouldn't be selling this product as wifi enabled.

It worked great for a month, used 4 times.
Now no longer he wants to connect even though I followed all the Anova guide.
Bought three pieces and one does not work anymore!
Now I'm waiting to replace ...

Connects via wifi at home with no issues, but I get to the office and can't connect remotely via the company wifi network. The device is a brick unless I can set it to start cooking from a remote location.

The app and the connectivity is a piece of junk. You need to be Einstein to figure it out

As a user of the Anova Precision Cooker, and a home wifi, I want my APC to be able to handle spaces in passwords. When I take the APC to my friends house, because we're having a party, and he's got spaces in his Wifi Password, it's a significant pain for him (and now me) to be able to connect the APC to his network.

Also, I want the APC to be able to have it's firmware updated over the air (OTA) update.

(Thanks to Theactualrapture for the clue)

You NEED to head into you router settings and DISABLE your 5.0gHz channel.

Odds are if you're experiencing this problem then you're trying to set up your Anova using your smart phone while connected to a 5.0gHz channel. The Anova device tries to connect to whatever network your phone is on, including channel. Unless you specifically have networks specifically set up for different frequencies, then you're on the 5.0ghz channel so Anova won't connect.

You simply need to go into your router settings, disable the 5.0ghz frequency, and then tell your phone to forget the current wifi network and reconnect again. Now you should be on your router's 2.4ghz channel. Quit and restart the Anova app and you should be good to go.

I wish I knew why Anova made this so complicated. Nevertheless, that should solve your problem. It did mine.

It's not good enough to simply connect to your 2.4gh

For all those that have trouble with this.

    1. Yes make sure you are connected to 2.4g from your device on your router, no need to disable 5g etc.
    2. Very important to creat a simple password of lower case letters and numbers as this works. Not sure if removing upper case or adding numbers made it connect to app.
    3. I found that it always connected to my router but the app did not. I had upper case and no numerical and when I corrected this it worked fine.

    4. This needs to be corrected on the app side of things as we should not need to compromise our security or have to work all this out.
